Crossroads
are one of many obstacles that lay on the path of a man. And passing one now and then is a good indication that one hasn't been walking in circles.

Learned man knows his directions ahead and guides his fate with reason.
Passionate man follows his gut.
Brave man goes where the heart is.

And since one doesn't decide his fate or creates the future but merely chooses out of the options given And since the path is life. The destination is a fate with the hope as its prophet. And place where ones path started is what ones sole is made of.
Then a possible technical drawing of the life as an output of the aforementioned conditions is a task a good technician can draw up to a good accuracy.

What is to be then decided and where is the freedom that everybody seems to fuss about so?

One can decide the drawing standard and style and these days one can even decide most of the colours he uses without breaking the two previous points.
So go out there and make for a nice drawing and make sure you are happy with it prior submitting it to manufacture.
If you are a technician you should know the best how to do that. And if you are hiring go to someone with some under his belt and for fucks sake: Let him do his job.

And to make this preposterous hint of a metaphor in to an actual metaphor by giving it sense:
to make a nice, clean, effective drawing that'll serve you well. Using whichever standard and style, colours and perhaps a hired force, it all has to go well together. you can judge that, professional or not, by accessing whether it's pretty.
and we know what's pretty and what isn't and we know what makes life good or crap too.

So what you can choose in your life and not only I suggest: be positive, don't hate and love a lot. focus on the things that are actual and don't worry about stuff that you can't affect.
all this is optional and anyone with a speck of reason to them can decide for it and learn it.
